All,

I spoke too soon.  After creating and mounting a personal volume under
/coda/src and recopying the linux sources, the build dies 100% of the time
with randomly truncated object and/or archive files. 

There is a serious problem lurking somewhere, and I'll be glad to act as
guinea-pig for anyone hacking at it.
