This came from some mailing list I am on somewhere. Apparently, Transarc is going to consolidate its codebase for the cache mgr used in AFS and DCE/DFS. I wonder if they have not stumbled upon the virtues of a user-space CM with a small-footprint kernel hook. :) They dont make specific mention - but reading in between the lines seems to indicate so. --------- "First, we have been for some time been designing a new distributed file system cache manager, originally targeted for DFS that is now targeted for both AFS and DFS. This new cache manager will be more modular than the existing cache managers for our file systems products. We expect that this new design will scale better than the existing products, be more extensible, and more portable. We are focused heavily on the Microsoft platforms for this work and we expect the technology to be available there first." +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ Jim Doyle Boston University Information Technology Systems Analyst/Programmer email: jrd_at_bu.edu Distributed Systems tel.
