This didn't post properly last Thursday. It is being re-sent for those that do not subscribe to coda-annouce_at_coda.cs.cmu.edu thank you ANNOUNCING CODA 4.4.3 We are releasing an interim release of Coda, version 4.4.3. The sole purpose of this release is an atomic update of the RPC2 protocol on all clients and servers to a newer version of the protocol prepared by the Odyssey group at CMU. The version of RPC2 in 4.4.3 is not compatible with previous versions, so servers and clients have to be upgraded simultaneously. Kernel code is not affected, server RVM data files can continue to be used. The 4.4.0 documentation is still current for Coda-4.4.3 as well. If no unexpected difficulties arise over the next few days we will continue to use the version of RPC2. Our next release 4.6.0 is due soon. Changes: -------- - RPC2 upgraded to PROTOCOL version 8. The changes are an addition of float types to the XDR, and computing server processing time for RPC's in milliseconds rather than 10s of milliseconds. - LWP has several routines to aid in debugging stack overflow problems. - A reintegration bug in Venus caused files not to be reintegrated. Jan Harkes made an important band-aid fix for this. - The CFS_FLUSH downcall didn't write enough. Fixed. Notes: ------ + Older clients will NOT connect to the testserver after 5pm EDT on Friday. + We are no longer improving Linux 2.0 kernel code. The Linux 2.1 kernel code is now superior in quality and we recommend running a 2.1.100 or later kernel + This release is the last release in which NetBSD 1.2 binaries will be provided and NetBSD 1.2 is now unsupported. + We are still very committed to FreeBSD and FreeBSD 2.2.5 and 2.2.6 will be fully supported in Coda-4.6.0. + testserver.coda.cs.cmu.edu will be upgraded to Coda-4.4.3 on Friday, May 8th, 1998, 5pm EDT. + Please note that AFS is not a normal distribution channel for Coda. This release of Coda was provided via AFS due to the incompatibilities introduced by the new RPC2. Future releases will generally only be available via the Coda File System and ftp.coda.cs.cmu.edu.
