I've deleted and recreated and uninstalled and reinstalled so many times I'm sick. I now have a server that never complains, two clients that always seem to work, and yet they don't seem to have the same files... sometimes. But: from client machine: $ ls /coda/lissttest ls: /coda/listtest: No such file or directory $ touch /coda/listtest $ ls /coda/lissttest /coda/listtest $ cfs cs Contacting servers ..... All servers up $ ls /usr/coda/spool/500/ $ from client/server: $ ls /coda/lissttest ls: /coda/listtest: No such file or directory $ cfs cs Contacting servers ..... All servers up $ ls /usr/coda/spool/503/ $ nothing in the logs, etc...i don't know why they seem out of sync. both can access the files, etc. Can anyone tell me a more detailed account of the process of getting the laptop files working: setup server on desktop setup client on desktop setup client on laptop 'cp -Rp ~/files /coda/' on desktop 'ls /coda' on laptop, make sure they're there. hoard add, walk, etc on laptop then can i disconnect from the network? can i shutdown? do i need a cfs disconnect? > hoard gives me the same results that you wrote about. I didn't really understand Peter's reply to your of course...it can't read it since it isn't hoarded into the cache. only replicated volumes (createvol_rep) can be hoarded. Peter: how do I make my laptop venus start when I'm not connected to the network? It says: no bootstrap server or something similar. /mdi -- Michael D.
