Is the updateclnt running on your server, is the updatesrv running
on your SCM machine ?

On my machine xylophone (serving as both a server and a SCM machine)

[root_at_xylophone init.d]# ps auxww | grep update
root       371  0.0  0.0   728    24  ?  S   Aug  1   0:34 update (bdflush) 
root      1660  0.1  1.1  1644   352  ?  S   Aug  2  63:18 updatesrv -p /vice/db 
root      1661  0.1  0.8  1568   256  ?  S   Aug  2  68:32 updateclnt -h xylophone -q coda_udpsrv 

(don't confuse them with "update (bdflush)", which has nothing to
do with coda)

The two services are started by (in a SysV style boot-up sequence, such
as that in a redhat machine)

/etc/rc.d/init.d/update.init

If you use rpm, the file comes with the rpm package

[root_at_xylophone init.d]# rpm -qf /etc/rc.d/init.d/update.init 
coda-debug-server-5.2.4-1
