I've an operation that straddles the Atlantic, with VPN between them. Occasionally that VPN is clogged, and for short periods (20min up to 8hours) it disappears entirely. The client machines are mostly Windows 20000. Please comment on the feasibility of this idea: I deploy a Unix box running Coda at each site to mirror various file systems, and then redistribute the files to the end users via Samba. Does the authentication mechanism rule this out entirely? Are there other problems?
