Server hangs

Apologies, but I have one of those "I follow the instructions and it
hangs" questions.

I get this error message on creaevol_rep. Not suprising, since the
server never finishes initialising. It prints its pid into the pid file
and then 'hangs'. Three hours later, still nothing.

soap:/vice# createvol_rep ROOTVOLUME E0000100 /vicepa
Servers are (soap )
V_BindToServer: binding to host soap.thesailorsarms.org
RPC2_NewBinding to server soap.thesailorsarms.org failed with RPC2_NOBINDING (F)cat: /tmp/vollist.729: No such file or directory
Found no partitions for server soap.
soap:/vice# startserver --help
Can't start file server, one is already running!

I have tried the Debian 3.5.15-1 packages and the corresponding source
code. I am running linux kernel 2.4.9 with devfs but downgraded to
2.2.19 no devfs to see if that helped. Nope - same problem.

I couldn't find any debug switches to get more information. Could
someone point me in the right direction, please?
