ah okay. i still have my clients set to communicate with only one
server. i'm not sure if this is supported or not, but i was thinking
i would use my main server as the only active server, and keep the
other server running in the background, simply replicating from the
primary server. rather than have clients talk to both. the reason is
that the primary server is running on much nicer hardware, and also i
don't want to risk conflicts between servers.

is it possible to use the secondary server as more of a "hot spare"
than an active server?

i actually managed to fix this on my own, after some time spent tweaking
the configuration. the process for adding a host to an already existing
group is not very well documented, so i had to piece together a config
from the mailing list archives. the short of the matter is that i gave
each host its own entry in VSGDB, created a new VSG for the group,
and changed VRList to reflect the new VSG.
