Thanks for your answer it was a real eye opener.. maybe I shouldn't look
at the trees and focus on the forrest :)
Of course you're right; .. there isn't even a difference in this case 
between coda and local
filesystems with respect to where authentication and file permission 
storage take place.
It took me a while to realize that I already have what I was looking for 
in the first place.
