I assume I should be able to compile only the fs/coda/ module, right? 
I didn't find much in the archives for FC2. Perhaps I'm being really 
dense on this one. 

With kernel-2.6.8-1.521, in /usr/src/2.6.8-1.521, I "make menuconfig" to 
enable CONFIG_CODA_FS  ...
