Thanks for taking an interest.  I haven't gotten much farther.
I did run the bldvldb.sh and makevrdb commands to build the volume
databases on the server.  That seemed to clear up a couple messages,
but I still can't get the client to successfully start on the other
machine.
The client running on the server is happy and mounts /coda fine.
Both are pentium machines with recent RH6.2 clean loads.
