Coda File System

an idea inspired by data recovery headaches :)

Hello!

Just an (probably not new) idea: server filedata explorer...

In its simplest, static and readonly incarnation:

a utility going through inactive rvm and creating a symlink tree pointing
to under /vicepa or corresponding..., possibly resolving mountpoints,
resolvable inside the same server.

Then all files on a stopped server become accessible to local "root" with
their pathnames, even if still missing the metadata.

It might help disaster backup/recovery in certain cases.

To compare, dfs allows filesets on a server to be mounted as a *local*
filesystem, good for troubleshooting and file-level backups.

I assume that a readonly tool for Coda would be relatively easy to hack,
making it say an open()/close() wrapper. Then it is just a matter of
taste which application to use with such wrapper library.

My 2c.
